Olympic Medals

What a great start to the morning. At 9.00 am Mr Wood (Bea’s dad) arrived in our class with not one, not two, not three but four real Olympic medals. The medals belong to Blythe Tait who won his medals riding horses at the Olympics. He won the medals at the following Olympics: Individual bronze medal at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. A silver in the teams event at Barcelona in 1992. Individual gold medal and team bronze at Atlanta in 1996. Miss Rodger could not believe how heavy the medals felt around her neck. Thank you Mr Wood.

Holiday Photo Recount

I am learning to visualise a holiday photo in my head and recount the event. In the holidays I went in the car to Rotorua. I did lots of things. My favourite activity was going down the hill on the luge. It was crazy fun. I went one time with mum and one time with dad. By Kevin

Crocodile Descriptions

We have been learning to write a description. A long, long time ago there lived a crocodile who was fat and greedy. She lived in a murky river. She had eyes like meatballs and her jaws were sharp like a lions. Her mouth was wide open. She had a tail that was huge and a fat body. Her claws were as sharp as a knife. Her skin was bumpy and she had short legs. By Jenny

More Thinkers Keys

Why might a jellyfish be laughing? Someone is tickling it. A clownfish is acting funny. A fish has its face stuck to the sand. An octopus is walking upside down. A starfish is dancing. A fish is trying to fly. It is having so much fun playing Shock Tag.

Thinkers Keys

Our buzz groups had to think of interesting questions to ask a whale.

Who are your enemies?
Where do you go to the toilet?
What group do you belong to?
How do you breathe?
Who is your worst predator?
What type of whale are you?
How do you squirt water from your blowhole?
Where did the name 'whale' come from?
What do people use your fat for?

Jump Jam

In our writing group this week we have been learning to write sense poems. Please read our poems about Jump Jam. I can see the people puffing like a steam train as they perform more actions. I can feel the ground shaking like an earthquake because of the booming speakers. I can hear the music stopping and starting like a rap. I can smell all the dust drifting into my nose. I can taste the sweat dripping in my mouth. By Jessica

Crocodile Descriptions

We have been learning to write descriptions for a main character in a narrative story. Read our crocodile descriptions. Long, long ago in a bright rainforest lived a strong, violent crocodile with eyes like security cameras. She had jaws like a giant rat trap that trapped then killed her prey. Her powerful teeth were as sharp as a chainsaw cutting down a tree and she had bulging eyes. She sat camouflaged in the murky water like a rough, jagged rock. Her huge solid body could not be seen, all her body was covered except the bumps and spikes on her back. By Kyla A long time ago when cars weren't made yet there lived a dangerous crocodile that lived in the river Ganges. The crocodile had a spiky back, short legs and a big head. By Kalaneti Three centuries ago when televisions weren't invented yet, a fierce and fearless crocodile live in a tropical jungle. The jungle was an unknown island that humans had never been to in the Indian Ocean. The crocodile had razor sharp teeth more powerful than a grinder. He was uglier than Henry the 8th. He had bulging eyes and spikes on his back. His tail was sharper than a metal spike and he had pillar like legs. His body was as thick as a tree trunk, his claws harder than iron and his light green skin was as slimy as goo. By Liam C

Sea Creature Haikus

This week Mrs Smith taught us how to write Haikus. "Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

Visual Art

During Term One Mrs Smith has been teaching us about the artist Henris Matisse. We hope you enjoy the pictures of our sea scenes.

Shore to Shore

Well done to Liam C, Isabella L, Jessica, Michael, Maggie, Chantelle, Tahnee, Miss Rodger and their friends and families for completing the Shore to Shore Fun Run for 2012.

Sunnybrae Triathlon

We have been learning to use our senses to write about the triathlon.
We can see...
the water in the swimming pool wobbling like jelly.
kids fanning themselves like windmills.
bikes glimmering in the sun.
people puffing like steam engines.

Year 3/4 Swimming Carnival

Wow! What a lot of fun we had at the Year 3 and 4 Swimming Carnival. Read different parts of our recounts below.

As we walked down to the pool I was feeling nervous because lots of people were crowding around us waiting for the carnival to start.
By Maggie

I sat in my chair shivering through all of the length races. Finally it was the width races.
By Kyla

Bang! the relay clappers went off. Liam K went first, he touched Bea, Bea touched Tahnee then Tahnee touched Arlen. This was it, Arlen and Bailey were facing off.
By Esuru

Bang! went the clappers. I felt as if there were a party in my stomach and it was singing, "Go Arlen, go Arlen," over and over again.

Bubbles

This week we have been writing recounts about our bubble experience with our buddy class. Here are some sentences from our recounts.

On a thundery Friday afternoon I was so excited and I was wondering what we were going to do with our buddies. When we went to Room 3, we found out they were learning about bubbles.
By Soobin

The bubbles were as light as air. I wondered when my buddy was blowing bubbles, how can bubbles be see-through?
By Maggie

Bubbles were surrounding me, they looked a bit like candy floss because of the rainbow colours.
By Arlen

Last Friday we blew bubbles with our buddies. They felt ticklish. They felt slippery and slimy.
By Kaleneti

Portrait Poems
