Tapa Art

In Art this term Mrs Smith helped us to create a Tapa cloth design from Pacific images. Room 9, can you spot yours?

Fun Run

On the last day of the term we met Danyon Loader, an Olympic Swimming champion and got to touch his two gold medals. After that we all participated in the Sunnybrae Fun Run and cheered for the rest of the school as well.

Colour Poem

For homework in the last week of term one, Room 9 were asked to use at least six of their spelling words to write a poem.

Stephanie wrote a colour poem.

Red looks like a rose growing on a thorny bush.
Red smells like fresh raspberries with strawberries in a bowl.
Red feels like the warmth of the sunrise of a new day over Rangitoto.
Red tastes like candy floss on a stick at the Kumeu Show.
Red sounds like a fire burning in the fireplace keeping me warm at home.

Mahad wrote...

Who feels happy when he eats ice cream
Who needs electricity and food and water
Who gives love and painful high 5's
Who fears lions
Who'd like to see Shane Watson
Who dreams of being a famous cricket player
A student at Sunnybrae Normal School

Hooks

We have been learning to interest our readers by writing exciting hooks for our recounts.

OMG! That is so cool. Right before my eyes was the biggest bouncy castle I had ever seen.
By Bada

As I walked through the gate I said, "Wow, that is the biggest bouncy fun castle I have ever seen in my whole life!"
By Jessica

Wow, this is so awesome and amazing, all this stuff is so cool and the food is smelling good. Holy moly, this terminator is so big!
By Daniel

It was all peaceful and quiet until I felt a big shake on my bed while I was reading a book.
By Winnie

Wow! As I took that first step through the gate I saw people running, laughing, eating, dancing and playing.
